New Delhi: The Central authorities has banned 18 OTT platforms and related social media accounts for publishing obscene, vulgar, and in some cases, pornographic content material.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that 18 OTT platforms, 19 web sites, 10 apps (seven on Google Play Store, three on Apple App Store), and 57 linked social media accounts have been rendered inaccessible to the general public in India.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur emphasised the accountability of the platforms to not propagate obscenity, vulgarity, and abuse below the guise of ‘inventive expression.

According to a press release, the choice to behave in opposition to the OTT platforms was taken below the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, in session with different ministries/departments of the Government, and area specialists specializing in media and leisure, ladies’s rights, and little one rights.
