“Obviously this coming round is simply dangerous timing. But that is life. Injury is part of the game. I assume I can draw some inspiration from somebody like Thanasi [Kokkinakis] who has had a bunch of accidents and has bounced again,” Kyrgios said. “Look, I’m not doubting I shall be again to my full energy and taking part in the tennis I used to be taking part in previous to this occasion. Yeah, I’m devastated clearly.
“It’s like my home tournament. I’ve had some great memories here. Obviously last year winning the title in doubles and playing the best tennis of my life probably. Then going into this event as one of the favorites, it’s brutal. All I can do now is just look forward, do what I need to do and come back.”
Kyrgios, was slated as a possible quarterfinal opponent for Novak Djokovic when the draw was launched on Thursday in Melbourne. He joins Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka, Marin Cilic amongst prime names to be lacking the primary Slam of 2023.
