Thane girls steal football thunder

Defender Nyasa Bondre scored the all-important aim to assist Thane District clinch the WIFA Inter-District Football Championship on the Tarapur Vidya Mandir floor, Palghar, lately. It was their maiden junior women` title.

Thane defeated Kolhapur District 1-0 within the closing to proceed their spectacular, unbeaten run within the event.

They began their marketing campaign with a 22-0 thrashing of Nanded within the opener. In the quarter-finals, they registered a 3-0 win over Nashik. Meanwhile, within the semi-finals, Thane`s centre ahead and skipper Harleen Kaur scored a late aim to edge out Pune. Harleen was named the participant of the event, whereas Kolhapur District’s Asavari Patil was adjudged one of the best goalkeeper.Thane District defender Nyasa Bondre

Nyasa, 15, a Class 10 scholar of Euro School, Airoli, informed www.mid-day.com: “The competitors was not simple. The semi-finals in opposition to Kolhapur was powerful. In the ultimate, I used to be very nervous. I knew it was a do-or-die state of affairs once I was taking the final free kick on the final minute. I couldn’t afford to overlook that one. I’m glad I managed to attain. I can’t thank my dad and mom [dad Sumeet and mom Rutali] sufficient for encouraging me all through.” 

Nyasa, who trains on grass  on the Football School of India (FSI), Nerul, and on turf (throughout the wet season) on the Fr Agnel School in Navi Mumbai, revealed that her group didn’t get a possibility to have fun their win since they’d a practice to catch. “The total group lifted me after the ultimate. We hugged one another [after the win]. Since we didn’t have time to have fun, our coaches [head coach Anish Pol and manager Victoria Gill plan to throw a party for us soon,” said Nyasa, whose favourite players are Argentine superstar Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

Meanwhile, Harleen, 14, a Class 9  student of  Apeejay School in Kharghar, said she was pleasantly surprised to receive the player of the tournament. “I thought I had a 50-50 chance [to win]. I used to be not the highest scorer [five goals in the tournament].But my match and my aim in opposition to Pune was the game-changer and my total efficiency was good. This win wouldn’t have been doable with no group effort, the help of father [Vijay Sokhi], mother [Jagdeep Kaur Sokhi] and coach [Pol],” mentioned Harleen, whose favorite participant like teammate Nyasa is Messi.Thane District skipper Harleen Kaur with the trophy and medal
