Former India spinner and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh has demanded “capital punishment” for all those that have been concerned within the heinous crime of parading two Manipuri girls bare and allegedly gang-raping them.

Tension mounted within the hills of Manipur after a video from May 4 surfaced on Wednesday displaying two girls from one of many warring communities being paraded bare by a bunch of males from the opposite facet.

“If I say I am angry, it’s an understatement. I am numb with rage. I am ashamed today after what happened in Manipur. If the perpetrators of this ghastly crime aren’t brought to the book and handed capital punishment, we should stop calling ourselves human. It makes me sick that this has happened. Enough is Enough. Govt MUST act,” Harbhajan tweeted on Thursday

Police in Manipur stated a case of abduction, gang-rape and homicide has been registered at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district towards unidentified armed individuals. They stated an all-out effort is on to arrest the culprits on the earliest.

More than 150 individuals have misplaced their lives and several other injured since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised within the hill districts to protest towards Meitei neighborhood’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) standing.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur’s inhabitants and dwell principally within the Imphal Valley, whereas tribal individuals, which embrace Nagas and Kukis, represent 40 per cent and reside principally within the hill districts.
