Accused of sexual abuse and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali, Sheikh was arrested within the early hours of Thursday after being on the run for about 55 days.
According to police, Sheikh was arrested in two circumstances lodged on the Nazat police station in reference to an assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on January 5 throughout a raid at his home in a ration rip-off case.
He was booked beneath IPC sections 147 (responsible of rioting), 148 (responsible of rioting being armed with a lethal weapon), 149 (illegal meeting), 307 (try to homicide), 333 (whoever voluntarily causes grievous damage to any individual being a public servant) and 392 (theft), police added.
Following his arrest, Sheikh was suspended from the get together for six years.
“We have decided to Suspend Sheikh Shahjahan from the Party for six years,” TMC chief Derek O’Brien introduced in Kolkata.
