The Forest Department officers started an operation to put in radio collars on 9 wild elephants roaming in elements of Belur, Alur and Sakleshpur taluks on Friday.

The operation will proceed as much as December 15. The division has made preparations for the operations by bringing in 9 tamed elephants from elephant camps.

D. Mohan Kumar, DCF of Hassan Division, will lead the workforce of officers engaged within the operation. The workforce has been assisted by veterinarians and caretakers of elephants.

The operation to radio-collar elephants was purported to be performed in August–September this 12 months. However, it was postponed following the demise of H.H. Venkatesh, an outsourced worker of the division, in an elephant assault throughout the operation in Alur taluk on August 31.

Mr. Mohan Kumar has informed the media that this time the division made appropriate preparations for the security of the workers throughout the operations. The workforce would seize elephants after firing tranquillizer darts. Radio collars could be put in on the wild elephants in order that their actions may very well be tracked later.
