ED conducts fresh raids at TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh’s home again

Nineteen days after an Enforcement Directorate staff was assaulted by a mob, ED sleuths once more carried out a raid on the residence of absconding TMC chief Shahjahan Sheikh in North 24 Parganas district on January 24 morning in reference to its probe into the alleged multi-crore ration distribution rip-off, an officer mentioned.

Accompanied by over 120 personnel of the central armed police power, the ED officers broke open the collapsible gate of the residence of Mr. Sheikh within the Sandeshkhali space within the presence of native police and two locals as witnesses, the officer mentioned.

“We will search Mr. Sheikh’s house today. We will also try to talk to the residents there”, the ED officer instructed PTI.

After getting into the home, the ED officers locked the gates from inside and began searches, he added.

On January 5, a staff of ED officers had been assaulted by a mob after they tried to enter the residence of the TMC chief.

Three officers had been injured within the assault. The district police and Sheikh’s relations had lodged a grievance in opposition to the ED officers.

Mr. Sheikh, nevertheless, is absconding until date.
