EAM Jaishankar to file Rajya Sabha nomination from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar today

Rajya Sabha elections:  External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday (July 10) will file his nomination for Rajya Sabha from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar. Gujarat BJP basic secretary Pradeepsinh Vaghela stated Jaishankar is scheduled to file his nomination type on Monday at round midday, news company PTI reported. 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced the schedule for the election on 10 Rajya Sabha seats throughout three states– Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal to be held on July 24.  The counting of votes might be held on the identical day.  The final date to file nominations is July 13 and the final date for withdrawal of candidatures is July 17.  

Jaishankar time period will finish on August 18

The election was necessitated because the time period of Jaishankar will finish on August 18 together with two different Rajay Sabha members Jugalsinh Lokhandwala and Dinesh Anavadiya from Gujarat. However, the BJP has not formally declared the names of candidates for the three Rajya Sabha seats however Jaishankar’s nomination was sure.

Jaishankar was sworn in as cupboard minister within the authorities in 2019. He was then nominated to the Upper House to the seat vacated by Union house Minister Amit Shah who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 from Gandhinagar.

Meanwhile, the Congress had stated it might not subject candidates for 3 Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat because it didn’t have sufficient MLAs within the 182-member Assembly. Notably, of the 11 Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat, eight are presently held by BJP and the others by Congress.

10 RS members are retiring

According to an announcement issued by the EC, the ten members are retiring between July 28 and August 18 on the completion of their six-year time period within the Upper House.

Six MPs O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sushmita Dev, Shanta Chhetri and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray from Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress member Pradip Bhattacharya are retiring from West Bengal on August 18. One seat from Goa may even go to the polls because the time period of the BJP MP Vinay D Tendulkar will finish on July 28. Jaishankar, Dinesh Jemalbhai Anavadia and Lokhandwala Jugal Singh Mathurji are the three BJP MPs from Gujarat whose phrases are ending on August 18.
